A serious structure fire has ravaged a section of downtown Laurens on Thursday afternoon.  Smoke and flames could be seen billowing into the late afternoon sky from several miles away.  According to Otsego Fire Wire the fire was called in around 3:00 and soon after several departments from Oneonta, West Laurens, Hartwick and Otego (EMS stand-by at Oneonta station) were activated.  Multiple residential units were on fire.  The location of the fire is directly across from the Laurens Fire Department.

"Big Chuck" of WDOS talked to some residents who were in the building at the time of the fire and who escaped without harm.  They do report that all of their possessions were lost in the fire.  Stay tuned for details.
