This years 10th annual Bubba Bowl flag football tournament fundraiser was played out on a steamy Sunday, July 1, at Austin Lincoln Park in Walton. Originally 6 teams were set to compete for the title, but with the excessive heat, mid 90s and high humidity, 4 teams participated this year.

Bubba Bowl began in 2008 to honor the memory of Owen "Bubba" Banks, the 1 year old son of Kelly and Brian Banks of New Berlin. Owen passed away that year and the Banks wanted to do something to honor his memory. They are avid football fans, so the idea of a football tournament was a natural. There are other activities as well, with vendors on site, food available, an sports memorabilia. This year 10th anniversary commemorative Bubba Bowl T Shirts were available for purchase. The shirts were provided courtesy of Michael Strahan, former all pro defensive end for the New York Giants and a personal friend of the Banks.

The trophy this year went to the team of Travis Butler and Greg Dungan. Kelly Banks was named MVP for her tireless work over the past 10 years. A check in the amount of $2500 was presented to Michael and Jenessa O'Connor, the parents of 2 year old Trinity O'Connor, who is being treated for a rare form of Cancer.

According to Kelly, plans are already underway for next year's Bubba Bowl. They are always looking for new teams. If interested Facebook Kelly Banks.
