Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation to protect teens from dangerous exposure to UV radiation by limiting their access to indoor tanning facilities.

The new law prohibits the use of indoor tanning devices by children less than 17 years of age and requires teens between ages 17 and 18 to obtain parental consent.

Research shows that indoor UV tanning can be potentially dangerous; it increases the risk of skin cancer and exposes skin to UV radiation far more intense that the sun.
