Despite many changes in society's perception of autism, the general public is basically unaware as to the extent of this diagnosis. Where once it was estimated that 1 in 110 children had autism, that number has been increased to 1 in 68.

On Saturday May 3rd  from 9am until 4:30 pm,  the Autism Awareness Craft and Vendor Show at New Hope Community Church on Stockton Avenue in Walton will be the first of many events to raise awareness and remove stigma, according to event organizer Sarah Wright Shaw.

Over 20 crafters and vendors from all over the area will be on hand with all sorts of gift ideas. The proceeds will go to Organization for Autism Research (O.A.R.) and Surfers for Autism.

The event will also play host to the first Annual Art of the Spectrum Art Show. This show will display and feature works in all mediums by talented local children with autism.
