Delaware County is in the top three on a list of most dangerous counties in New York from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The agency’s report for 2015 show there were 17.37 fatalities per 100,000 population, with only Greene County and Seneca County having a higher rate.

Chenango County had a fatality rate of 12.28 per 100,000 population and in Otsego County it was 11.54. The statewide rate is 5.66 per 100,000 population
