At the Oscars 2016 Academy Awards Lady Gaga took the stage alongside several other survivors of sexual abuse as she sang her new single ’Til It Happens to You”. Gaga has recently been nominated on behalf of The Hunting Ground, a documentary series that is all about the hundreds of sexual assaults that take place on American college campuses. During her performance, Gaga was very emotional being that she herself is a survivor of sexual assault. In the middle of her performance dozens of other survivors joined the stage holding hands with one another. At the conclusion of her performance, she received a standing ovation from everyone in the crowd.

Prior to her performance, she was introduced by Vice President Joe Biden, a strong advocate for women’s rights. He stated “Too many women and men on and off of college campuses are still victims of abuse. Take the pledge: I will intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given. We must, and we can, change the culture.”

Gaga never fails to put on an outstanding, powerful performance that reaches out to thousands of people. At last years Oscars she performed an operatic The Sound of Music medley. She has also been recognized for her astonishing work as an actress winning the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series in American Horror Story: Hotel.
