According to Governor Cuomo's Office, New York State is making $15 million in grant funding available to help livestock farms implement water quality protection projects. The money from the State Agriculture Department’s Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation Waste Storage and Transfer System Program helps farms better manage and store nutrients, such as manure, to protect ground water and nearby waterways. These grants also support the state’s comprehensive effort to reduce the frequency of harmful algal blooms in upstate waterbodies. Log on to agriculture.ny.gov/RFPS.html for application details. Deadline is August 6.
