The New York State Labor Department released November unemployment figures on Wednesday and while the statewide unemployment was unchanged from last year at 4.5%; unemployment was up in Otsego, Delaware and Chenango Counties. Otsego County’s jobless rate is 5% up .6% over the last year. In Delaware County unemployment is up .3% to 5.3%. And in Chenango County unemployment is 5.4% – a half a percent higher than a year ago. Labor department officials say the reason for the higher numbers is because more people are being counted as unemployed as they are actively looking for jobs.
