One of the things I love most about spring is getting my hands dirty. Whether it's working in the yard or putting in the plants and flowers that add that certain something to my environment.

There's something about working with the soil that takes me back to when I was a kid working alongside my Dad. We would prep the area, plant our seeds, pull weeds, spend the summer watching the growth, and then the very best part -- enjoying the harvest of fresh homegrown vegetables.

This Sunday April 27th at 2 pm,  the first meeting of the season will take place at The Walton Community Garden just off of Stockton Avenue (toward the high school, look for the sign) in the village. This will be the fifth growing season for the garden.

The land was donated by the Morgan family and set up as tilled plots which are available in two sizes, the small plot (15'x20') for $15 per season and large plots (25'x20') for $25 per season. If you can't afford a plot, don't worry -- a certain number of plots will be available at no cost.

The benefits of growing your own food are numerous: lowering food bills, having fun with your kids, fresh air and exercise, plus getting out in our community in a positive manner. Don't forget the plots are tilled in advance and in some cases FREE!
