The American Red Cross has issued an emergency appeal for blood. In Delhi, the Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is hosting a blood drive Friday, hours 1-6 PM . On Monday, the Walton community will be collecting blood , hosted by the Watershed Agriculture Council at their conference room, located at 44 West Street, hours noon to  5 PM.

Summertime is a difficult time for blood services at the red cross, primarily due to family vacations and schools not in session. The red cross is in constant need of blood with supplies low right now. A Red Cross official told me that if 4 percent of eligible donors contributed just one time a year, there would not be a need for regular donors to donate more than a single time each calendar year..

People who want to give the gift of life can call 1 800 red cross or visit redcross.org to make a lifesaving appointment.

Looking ahead, there is another  blood donation opportunity July 23rd at the Pines Brook Baptist Church, hours 2-6 PM.
