Dolly Parton made a surprise appearance at the 2019 Newport Folk Festival on Saturday (July 27), joining Brandi Carlile during a set featuring a number of female country, Americana, folk and bluegrass stars. The country icon performed songs with Carlile and her special guests, to the delight of the festival crowd.

At the close of the 75-minute Carlile-curated set, Parton invited all of Carlile's guests -- the three other members of the Highwomen, Sheryl Crow, pop-folk singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers, 2019 The Boot Artists to Watch Yola, Molly Tuttle, Jade Bird and Candi Carpenter and more -- to join her onstage for her hit "9 to 5." Parton's surprise appearance at the 2019 Newport Folk Festival began with a rendition of "Eagle When She Flies" with the Highwomen: Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris and Amanda Shires. Carlile's female-focused set closed out the second day of the 2019 Newport Folk Festival, which runs through Sunday (July 28) in Newport, R.I. Carlile and her Highwomen cohorts were also onstage on Friday (July 26), making their official live debut on the first day of the festival.
