Although Alma Lynch, a lady well known by myself and countless others in Delaware County, has passed away, she had many passions and projects, including poetry readings at local libraries, the theatre, and the Scarecrow Contest. She was also a writer for local publications, as well as a personality on Delaware County's WDLA.

One of her greatest pet peeves was the stray cat overpopulation in and around the Village of Walton. With that being said, The Alma Fund has undertaken the daunting task of first capturing, then spay/neutering as many of those cats as possible.

On April 12th, in partnership with Oneonta veterinarian Dr. Joan Puritz, there will be a low cost clinic for strays and pets at the Walton Grange on Stockton Avenue in the village. The cost is only $40 (to include FVRCP and rabies) and the response has been overwhelming.

Of course, with this initiative comes the cost of putting this all together. Concerned citizens and business are being asked if they could possibly make a tax-deductible donation to this worthy cause. For additional information please call Joanne at (607) 865-4735.

As someone who respected Alma Lynch’s projects immensely, along with her wit and determination (not to mention calling her friend), I’m confident in saying she is smiling down on all the positive efforts being made in her name for those creatures who cannot speak for themselves.
