Singer-songwriter Jeff Crosby is premiering his new song "Laramie" exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play below to listen to the song, which Crosby calls "almost too personal."

Like all great Americana songs, "Laramie" finds its origins in a relationship gone bad. As its title might indicate, it takes both sonic and lyrical inspiration from the sparse vibes of Wyoming's capital city. "I stayed in Laramie with an ex-girlfriend, and we got a cheap hotel, went out on the town, hit a bunch of dive bars in the freezing cold," Crosby tells The Boot. "When we split up, I found myself wishing we could go back there. I guess the idea is that, when you really love someone, it doesn't really matter where you are, as long as you're together."

Despite being set in Wyoming, Crosby wrote "Laramie" in Austin, Texas, during a bout of depression that set in right around the time his relationship with the woman in the song ended. He decided to write the song as a letter to her, and worked with artists in both Nashville and Texas to flesh out its sonic elements, which Crosby says are influenced by Dire Straits and the War on Drugs.

"I've always dealt with my personal struggles through writing, and I guess this song felt like a light at the end of a long, dark tunnel I was crawling down last May," Crosby says. "It takes me back to a unique and special time with someone I really loved. Hopefully it takes you there too."

An Idaho native, Crosby dropped out of school at the age of 17 to pursue his career as a musician. Since then he's been a permanent fixture on the road, sharing the stage with artists including Nikki Lane, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Charley Crockett and Widespread Panic. Fans of Kurt Sutter's FX show Sons of Anarchy may recognize Crosby's voice as well: He contributed two songs to the series during its run after befriending its music editor.

"Laramie" is Crosby's newest single, set for official release on Nov. 15, and he's currently working on a full-length album that's set for release in 2020. Vist JeffCrosbyMusic.com for more.
