According to a press release from the Delaware County Sheriff's Department, hero K-9 officer "Ozzie" was laid to rest last week.

"As you all know, one week ago today, we lost our beloved K9 Deputy Sheriff, Osman Steele, affectionately known as “Ozzie”, to a medical condition. On Tuesday, April 28, 2020, we received our beloved Deputy’s cremated remains from Valley Veterinary Services located in Unadilla, NY. A brief memorial was held to honor Ozzie’s life and contributions to the Sheriff’s Office, as well as the people of Delaware County and afterwards he was given a much deserved hero’s escort home. Rest in Peace our dear friend and partner. May we find comfort in God during this most difficult time.

A very special thank you to Valley Veterinary Services who defined compassion and professionalism during our time of need. We also very thankful for the outpouring of support from our Delaware County community, our Law Enforcement community and Fire Service community, especially the Sidney and Delhi Fire Department’s. Your concern, compassion and condolences are heartfelt by every member of the Sheriff’s Office, especially Major John Demeo and his family.
