Lewis Cullman, Founder of Sidney Child Care Center, Dies at 100

Lewis Cullman, businessman and financier, has dies.  He was 100 years old.

Cullman was a financier and investor who made millions in the New York business world in the 1940s and 1950s.  He was the owner of Keith-Clark, a Sidney calendar factory.  When he sold it to Mead Paper Company  in 1999 for $550-million dollars, his personal share was over $300-million dollars.  Cullman and his wife then decided to give their fortune away.  He was one of America's most prolific benefactors and donated more than $500,000,000 to charities and not-for-profits.

Lewis and Dorothy Cullman established the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Child Care development on the grounds of his calendar/paper company in Sidney more than 25 years ago.  The center is still a vital part of the Sidney community, offering child care for up to 100 area children ranging in age from 12 weeks to 12 years.
