Due to the coronavirus pandemic, pretty much every sport imaginable has been canceled, postponed or rescheduled. There have been talks to bring some major league sports back without spectators, but most of them like football or baseball can have some player to player contact and social distancing is almost impossible. That's where NASCAR said, "Hold My Beer".

According to The Fort Worth Star-Telegram Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage “Our sport is unique because the competitors are inside the race car, they don’t have body-to-body contact like most other sports,” he said. “That’s a really distinct advantage over other sports and why you’ll likely see auto racing as the first live sport returning to action.”

NASCAR did try virtual racing with car simulators with some success, but the racing wasn't the same and you can only watch someone else essentially play a video game for so long. Fans want real racing.

The Texas Governor Greg Abbot has given NASCAR and The Texas Motor Speedway the green light to have a race without fans in the stands but on TV.

Here's the press release from The Texas Motor Speedway.

This decision pretty much opens the door for other tracks around the country to follow suit and allow NASCAR racing without fans in the stands very soon. As of right now, no dates have been released for any upcoming races.
