According to the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, a one-car crash in the Town of Franklin on Wednesday ended in the driver being airlifted to U.H.S. Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City. Police say it happened on Dunk Hill Road and the driver, 41 year-old Matthew D. Baxter of Franklin was found entrapped and partially ejected from the vehicle. An investigation determined the driver lost control and hit a culvert which sent the vehicle airborne before hitting a tree. Excessive speed is being blamed in the crash.

According to officials, Baxter did not suffer any life threatening injuries as a result of the accident. A dog riding in the truck at the time of the accident was apparently uninjured and was turned over to the victim’s friend to be cared for.

Preliminary investigation indicates excessive speed was a contributing factor. Sheriff Craig DuMond indicated the investigation is on-going and charges are pending.
