On the evening of release day for the Highwomen's debut album -- Sept. 6 -- Maren Morris may not have been under the same roof as her supergroup bandmates (Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Amanda Shires), but she was still brimming with Highwoman spirit. The singer marked the occasion by preforming "Crowded Table," off the band's new record, during a headlining solo set at New York City's Radio City Music Hall. Press play above to watch!

On the studio recording of "Crowded Table," all four Highwomen are listed as lead vocalists. That's pretty standard fare for the freshly-released collection, which emphasizes community and inclusion on even a technical level. Still, the Highwomen do take turns in the spotlight on a handful of songs. Carlile helms "If She Ever Leaves Me" and "Wheels of Loredo," for example, while "My Only Child" finds Hemby front and center, and the gut-wrenching "Cocktail and a Song" features Shires in the leading role.

Morris could have chosen to perform a song that already casts her as front woman -- she sings the lead in "Old Soul" and "Loose Change" on the album -- but instead, she opted for the quietly anthemic, potent "Crowded Table." Swapping out rich four-part harmony for a simpler adaption, Morris still adeptly conveyed the song's message of acceptance and healing.

Carlile and Hemby co-wrote "Crowded Table" with Grammy Award-winning songwriter Lori McKenna. The Highwomen first shared the track back in July of 2019, when they released it as the second song ahead of their new album's release. It followed the group's debut single, "Redesigning Women."
