Being in the right place at the right time saved a Margaretville man from bleeding to death on January 7. According to New York State Police, at around 9:30 a.m. that morning, New York State Police received a call that man who was doing tree removal work at a Dry Brook Rd. residence in Margaretville, got his leg caught in a woodchipper. There were two other people at the scene, trying to help him free his leg. They were successful but the man was severely bleeding from the injured leg, even after they try to slow the bleeding with a belt strapped around his leg.

Fortunately, State Trooper Mitchell Reed was close by and able to respond to the 9-1-1 emergency within a few minutes and used his medical equipment with a tourniquet to slow the bleeding as they waited for Margaretville EMS to arrive.

The injured man was transported to Margaretville Hospital then later transferred to Albany Medical for treatment.
