Investigators arrested Michael J Fairbairn, 35, of Hancock, on charges of Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, Resisting Arrest and Attempted Assault in the Third Degree.

At approximately 11:35 p.m. yesterday, Michael Fairbairn was present as a spectator in the main courtroom of the Delaware County Courthouse during the sentencing hearing for Andrew Hafele, who had previously been convicted of manslaughter in connection with the death of Fairbairn’s family member Michael Mills.

Fairbairn jumped from his seat in the courtroom, and ran toward Hafele, in an apparent attempt to assault him.

When officers attempted to stop Fairbairn, he resisted arrest and wrestled with officers, who were able to gain control and take him into custody.

Fairbairn was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court, and released on his own recognizance, to appear in that court at a later time.
