Labor Department officials say bothersome federal guidelines had New Yorkers having to apply for regular Unemployment Insurance and be rejected before they could try for the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.

Under the app rolled out yesterday, the D.O.L, says residents will be able to fill out one form to get the correct benefits.

In addition, the department has been deploying over 3,100 representatives dedicated only to answering unemployment benefit questions 7 days a week.  That’s an increase of 400 from the number of employees previously manning the Department of Labor call center before the pandemic.

A fact sheet on pandemic unemployment assistance can be found at www.labor.ny.gov/ui/pdfs/pua-factsheet.pdf .
