New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit (CVEU) conducted a 72 hour road check at 4 locations along the Southern Tier Expressway (I-86/SR-17) in the counties of Tioga and Steuben during the week of May 11 – 14, 2014.

During the period, there were 833 inspections conducted, 1,326 violations discovered and 101 vehicles taken off the road and placed out-of-service for serious safety violations. Those violations included unsecured loads, brake violations, steering violations, and lighting defects such as inoperable turn signals and stop lamps.

A total of 45 drivers were taken off the road and placed out of service for severe safety violations including 8 for improper driver’s license or for not having a driver’s license, 28 for hours of service violations (fatigue), and 4 for not being medically qualified.
