Police officers throughout the state will begin a crackdown on drivers who use cell phones while at the wheel.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced “Operation Hang Up”, a six day law enforcement effort to send a message that distracted driving will not be tolerated. State troopers will be using special sport utility vehicles that sit higher than normal vehicles and allow them to see what's going on inside a car.

Getting caught texting while driving can cost a driver $150 and five points for the first offense, $500 for the next.
