Friday afternoon, New York State Police Sergeant Robert Bloom III who was off-duty and driving home, saw a home on fire in Apalachin and headed to the scene.  Once there, he saw a bedridden male trapped inside the house. With the help of the bedridden man’s father and a neighbor, the three entered the burning residence to rescue the man inside. They successfully got the man into a wheelchair and out of the home. All four men were transported to area hospitals and treated for smoke inhalation.

Sergeant Bloom is a seven-year veteran with the New York State Police. He works out of the State Police barracks in Sidney.
