In a statement released by the NYSPHSAA it was noted that schools would have to reopen under order from Governor Cuomo before and spring sports could resume.  Under the Governor's order New York State schools are to remain closed until May 15.

Sports affected by today's championship cancellations in New York State include baseball, softball, girls and boys lacrosse, boys tennis and girls and boys track and field.  Spring sports have been canceled overall in Long Island involving Sections VIII and XI.  Section 4 is one of the sections remaining  with their spring sports regular season on hold.

Not only does the spring sports championships cancellation notice have an effect on local Section 4 teams but Binghamton and Broome County were slated to host the NYSPHSAA Baseball Championships on June 12 and 13. The Tournament brought 20 baseball teams from all over the state into the area for semifinal and championship competition.  Local restaurants, hotels and playoff venues all lose revenue as well.
