On the last Wednesday of each month something really wonderful takes place in Oneonta to tackle the issue of hunger:  a mass food distribution conducted by the United Way of Delaware and Otsego Counties with the help of many volunteers.  Anyone in need can show up each month on the last Wednesday between 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Northern Eagle Beverages (41 Browne St.) to get a variety of available food with no questions asked. The United Way will be routing people onto Brown St. by way of route 205 to keep traffic flow going.

The United Way has partnered with the Regional Food Bank for this project.  The food comes from grocery stores which cannot sell the food based on its sell by date.  It's fresh food, not yet expired, that would end up getting thrown away by grocery stores and now it's getting distributed to those in need.  This United Way program began in January and has been a huge success!  The number of households being served keeps climbing each month.

The next Mass Food Distribution will be today (May 29) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. If you have any questions, please call the United Way of Delaware and Otsego Counties  at 607-432-8006.
