Sheriff DuMond Announces Bail Reform Press Conference

The New York State Sheriff’s Association in conjunction with the New York State District Attorney’s Association, Chiefs of Police Association and Probation Director’s Association will be conducting regional press conferences simultaneously throughout New York State on Thursday to bring public attention to the dangerousness of the upcoming Bail Reform legislation that will take effect on January 1, 2020.

Sheriff Craig DuMond will host the southern-tier conference at the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and will be joined by several area Sheriff’s, District Attorneys, Chiefs, Probation Directors and local and State elected-officials.

The purpose of the conference is to address the imminent threat to public safety the new legislation will have on the public and to bring to light the so-called “non-violent” crimes that re included in the legislation; Felony Aggravated Vehicular Manslaughter as a result of DWI, Aggravated Assault Upon a Person less than 11 years old, Arson, Assault in the 3rd Degree, Crimes involving the Use of Children in Drug Sales, Criminally Negligent Homicide, Criminal Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds, Criminal Sale of Drugs on a School Grounds, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Endangering the Welfare of an Vulnerable Elderly Person, Manslaughter in the 2nd Degree, Promoting Sexual Performance By a Child, Reckless Assault of a Child by a Daycare Provider, Riot in the 1st Degree, Robbery in the 2nd Degree, Stalking in the 2nd Degree, Felony Drug Possession and Sales to name a few will result in a mandatory release or Desk Appearance Ticket beginning January 1, 2020.

“The fact that these crimes are being touted by the Governor as “non-violent” are worse than a misrepresentation to the public as far as I’m concerned” remarked Sheriff DuMond. “The public has a right to know” DuMond concluded.
