The State Department of Health made $26 million in Medicaid over payments and other questionable payments because of flaws in its e-Med NY claims processing computer system, according to an audit released by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.

An audit released on Wednesday by state comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, said New York State could save as much as $20 million a year if the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision applies to the federal Medicaid program for inpatient care for eligible inmates.

Health and Human Services secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Thursday announced the final rule implementing the part of the health care law that delivers higher payments to primary care physicians serving Medicaid beneficiaries.
