On Tuesday evening August 9, the Greater Oneonta Historical Society (GOHS)  is sponsoring a walking tour of Emmons Farms, the 200-year old property across from Price Chopper Plaza on Route 7 in Oneonta.

Asa Emmons settled in Oneonta after the Revolution and purchased land along the Susquehanna River in 1799. In 1835 his son Carleton Emmons bought  Jacob Young's Emmons Tavern and some of the land that includes the current Emmons Farms. He and his wife Maria Fairchild  lived in the Tavern util 1850, when they built a separate residence, the building that is now The Farmhouse restaurant. Over the years, additional homes, gardens, agricultural buildings, and a reservoir were added. Many of the buildings have now been developed into rental properties.

Tour guides will be Emmons descendants who own the property. The walk begins at 7:00 PM and will be followed by refreshments. The walking tour is limited to thirty persons. Tickets are $6 ($5 for GOHS members) and are payable at the event. All proceeds will benefit the Greater Oneonta Historical Society. Reservations are required.
