The Delaware County Sheriff's Office is reporting that a Walton resident was seriously injured early Wednesday afternoon on State Highway 10.  Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of an accident involving a dump truck and a pedestrian near the intersection of State Highway 10 and Pines Brook Road in the Town of Walton.

The investigation revealed that 70-year-old Edmund O. Jones of Walton had stopped his vehicle on the side of the road, and got out to help a turtle that was crossing the road, but was subsequently stuck when he walked into the path of an on-coming, northbound bound truck and trailer operated by 62 year-old Edward I. Sprague of Walton.

Jones, suffering from severe internal injuries was airlifted to Albany Medical Center by LifeNet helicopter.  The driver of the dump truck had his truck taken out of service due to multiple safety violations.  This investigation is ongoing.
